Downtown Austin Condo

This large downtown condo came to us as a blank-slate remodel, and the client's first priority was a wall of video: Sony XBR displays with an 85-inch center screen flanked by two 75-inch sides. Each side display tiles up to four programs at once, so the wall can carry eight pictures around the main event, which plays center with full surround sound. The front three channels of that surround system live in a custom passive Triad soundbar, built and sized to match the center display.

Every display in the home rides one video-over-IP system: Just Add Power, delivering 4K video and sound across a dedicated network VLAN backbone. Two video tilers and eighteen sources, a combination of Roku Ultra streamers and Spectrum cable boxes, sit in the rack and are available to any screen, so the office, guest bedroom, master bedroom, and bar area all get the same video and tiling capability as the main wall.

Control4 runs the rest: in-wall touch screens flush-mounted with Wall Smart kits in key areas, plus a portable tabletop touch screen that lives in the kitchen and works anywhere in the home. Whole-house audio covers the kitchen, dining room, family room, guest bedroom, office, and master bedroom on Triad speakers, alongside but separate from the surround system. Every single light and shade is on the system through Control4 native lighting, keypads, and a third-party shade driver, with three keypad dimmers invoking Welcome Home, Entertain, Good Night, and Good Bye scenes. It all runs back to a utility closet: a full-height 42U rack with three zones of AC Infinity active cooling, a UPS, and rack-mounted surge protection that is IP-controllable by app, as a whole or outlet by outlet.
